VL Editor: MIDI Error

idc replied the topic: VL Editor: MIDI Error

Hi

Sometimes it may be necessary to unplug the vlt usb, restart the computer and then re-connect the usb cable to force windows to connect the vlt. ( Plug n Play in a nutshell).

Also if you have had other devices plugged into the same USB port, this can now and again cause issues, and is normally fixed by just using another USB port for the VLT.

Once you have downloaded and installed the full version; you will need to run it; it will inform you that it is not activated and request that you email me a file; once I have this file and confirmed payment via paypal, i then manually generate your unique activation code and email it to you. ( sometimes this is within a few minutes and other times it can take a few hours ( as I need sleep now and again ).

If you do not get an activation code within 24 hrs( very rare) then please email me, with the serial file and the paypal transaction details; as sometimes the email addresses you use for one does not match the paypal email address and causes a delay, as I have to manually match the two addresses.

Interesting enough, after trying the VLT Editor Demo and the VLT with a different PC (Win 7), at first the PC did not recognize the VLT at all. Then I connected a USB hard drive to confirm there was no problem with the PC. Then I tried the VLT again, and it all worked.

Then I tried it again with the Win 8.1 notebook that had the MIDI error before, and miraculously, it worked. I changed no settings on the VLT (they were correct all along), and I did not disable any apps on the notebook...and it just started working. So I', in the process of downloading the full version (already sent you a PayPal payment)...just waiting for the activation code.

Thank you for your time and patience in answering my questions.

Hi
The error is displayed when the editor has detected the VLT and is unable to communicate with it due to it being used by another application.

Make sure that no other program has grabbed the VLT ( voicesupport must not be running, DAW and some Audio/DJ programs grabs all midi devices when they open, and will stop the editor from using the USB MIDI of the VLT).

If you bring up the task manager, check to see what application/processes are running, if the editor has previously tried to communicate with the VLT and has crashed you may have a process of the VLTEditor still running in processes; if so end this process and re-try the editor.

It is very important that you have all the MIDI settings correct.
a quick video showing how to setup the vlt for the editor and voicesupport.

Hope that helps

I just downloaded the trial version of Editor, and each time I launch Editor I get this message: MIDI Error, Device is being used by another application. Click here to close VLT Editor.

The VLT is powered on, all MIDI settings are configured properly, MIDI cable is NOT connected to the VLT, and there is no LED flashing to indicate that any MIDI is being received by the VLT. I have no music-related apps on my Windows 8.1 notebook. I have no idea what other app is using the device (VLT).

Then I tried launching Editor with the VLT powered off, and Editor opened without the error message. It appears that the only active tab in the demo version is Configure, but since some of the info listed (like MIDI Chan: 0) is incorrect, I don't think Editor is communicating with the VLT at all.

I saw an icon in the lower right part of the screen (something about double-clicking to copy current presets from the VLT to Editor), and when I double clicked it, an error message came up...something about "File Error - Called from :Save_Library" (it was too long to remember). And my only option was to "click to close VLT Editor". Oddly enough, a green progress bar appeared behind the message that appeared to be saving the presets to the Library, but after closing and reopening Editor, the Library tab was not active, so I couldn't check if anything had been saved.

Please help. I want Editor to work.
